Congratulations to Elly B. of Wendover, Ontario, on the purchase of Vigilante RGS (aka “Marvel”). We were sad to see him go but also thrilled that he has gone to a great home where we know he will get top notch care and be produced well in the years to come. Look out for this pair in the jumper ring in a few years! 😊
2019 branded Hanoverian gelding by Valentino, out of Valencia III (Indoctro/Calido I/Lord Calando). He is a top prospect for jumping, eventing, or hunters. “Marvel” is truly the whole package: pedigree, conformation, movement, and temperament. He has an impressive pedigree, bred for sport. Sire Valentino is in the top 1% of all German sires. He competed to 1.40 m himself, has produced 1.50-1.60 m jumpers, and was ranked #8 on the WBFSH world sire rankings for eventing in 2019. Damsire Indoctro has consistently been one of the top ranked jumping and eventing sires in the world. He has sired numerous 1.60 m jumpers, including a number of Olympic competitors (represented by 2 direct offspring at the 2016 Olympics, and 5 at the 2012 Olympics). Marvel comes from a versatile performance family: his maternal half sister is competing at 1.40 (Barbara HPF, by Autobahn) and his maternal brother won 5-year-old Dressage Suitability at Dressage at Devon (Arioctro HPF, by Ariadus). He has three good gaits with a particularly good canter. Best of all, he has an unbeatable temperament – he is brave, personable, and extremely easy to work with.
Congratulations to Danielle Barr of Kingston, Ontario, on the purchase of the 8-month-old black Rhinelander filly (Diamond Stud / Feiner Stern). We have known Danielle for many years and can confidently say this will be a superb partnership – we are excited to watch it develop. This baby will receive the best of care and her cheeky personality will be lots of fun for Danielle.
Congratulations to Lauren W. of Lexington, Kentucky on the purchase of Somersby (“Solo”), our 2015 tall bay Oldenburg (GOV) gelding (Sagnol/Heling). Lauren has big plans for this talented guy including the Young Horse Show Series in the USA. We are thrilled that he has gone to such an experienced rider who will bring out his full potential and are looking forward to seeing Solo at Dressage at Devon 2018!
Congratulations to Keith Robinson of Robinson Stables in Sutton, Quebec, on the purchase of Arkangel (aka “Artax”), our tall and athletic 4-year-old home-bred Trakehner gelding by the international jumper sensation Coconut Grove xx out of the Trakehner mare Arista GS (Heling/Malachit). Keith is a seasoned eventer and trainer with a knack for bringing young horses along — we look forward to watching Keith bring out the talent in this youngster!
Dark brown/bay Rhineland gelding by Diamond Stud (GOV and approved Rhineland) out of imported Hanoverian mare Francesca (Federweisser/Weltruhm).
With a pedigree full of Grand Prix stars, Diamond Stud offers North American breeders a rich heritage of top performers and proven rideability. Equally impressive was his gentlemanly demeanor in the barn and with people. Diamond Stud successfully completed the 70-day test at Silver Creek Farm in 2010. Some of his score highlights were: Test Director scores – Character “10”, Temperament “9.5”, Willingness to work “9”, Constitution “9”, Rideability “8.5” and Judges’ scores for movement – walk “8.5”, trot ” 8.50″, canter “8.75”. Diamond Stud has sired many premium foals; his oldest offspring have just been started under saddle and they are displaying not only very good gaits, but also high rideability. As Diamond Stud recently passed away, we feel fortunate to be able to offer this quality son of his. His Hanoverian dam, Francesca, consistently produces versatile, typey horses with 3 good gaits and an excellent work ethic.
“Dragon” is a personable, mellow colt who loves to interact with humans. He is tall and correct with an incredible neck, and will have height and substance (estimated final height: 16.2-16.3). He displays lovely correct gaits with loads of suspension. While Dragon is a serious dressage prospect, dam-sire Federweisser has proven to be a versatile sire, having produced FEI dressage horses, jumpers, and several of the top eventers in the world, so there’s no reason this handsome guy won’t also excel over fences.
Two of Francesca’s offspring have been retained by breeder which is why this special guy is for sale for $11,500 USD.
We are very pleased to announce the sale of the 6-year-old Canadian Warmblood gelding Sandringham (“Linus” – Schroeder/Heling/Malachit) to Kate Fleming of North Carolina! Linus will be staying with us for a few months of training and showing before he crosses the border. Kate purchased two horses from us in 2015 (“Gettysburg” aka Rhett and “Tradewind” aka Finn) and has decided she will only ever buy Red Gate horses in the future! This guy doesn’t know how lucky he is to be rejoining his former pasture-mates and living the life of luxury in North Carolina hunt country!
We are thrilled to announce the sale of Vanity Fair (“Havana”, by Geronimo) to the Brennan Family of Carp, ON. It’s hard not to have mixed feelings when selling a home-bred – Havana was our first foal 11 years ago. From eventing to jumpers to camping, she has been a lot of fun. However, we are very excited about the new partnership between Havana and Avery Brennan and look forward to great things from this pair under the excellent guidance of Stephanie Calvert at Meadowvale Farm. Congratulations on making Havana part of your family!
Havana’s sale ad:
11-year-old 16.0 hh home-bred Hanoverian/TB mare Vanity Fair (“Havana”) (sire: Geronimo – Glorieux/Argentan, dam xx: Double Sonic/Hearts N Spades). Havana has successfully shown in the 1.0 m jumpers this year with wins and good placings, and competed in eventing at training level for several years with a solid record. She is a super horse for a junior or amateur to learn the ropes. Careful and clever over fences and fast in the jump offs. Goes in a snaffle all three phases with a big, ground-covering stride and a large barrel that takes up a lot of leg (rider is 5’10). Would easily make a fantastic 1.10 m jumper (1.15 with an accurate ride), could event at Prelim with the right rider, or would be just as happy packing a novice around over smaller stuff. Three good gaits. Easy to handle on or off property and cooperative with loading, farrier, wet, etc. Very sound; recent set of flexions done. Approved for breeding with the Canadian Warmblood Horse registry achieving Premium status at her inspection. Had a foal in 2011 – he is proving to be an exceptional, well-tempered athlete and has been retained by the breeders so can be seen on the property.
Born June 7, 2017 was the black Rhinelander filly “Dark Arts” (aka Ouija) by Diamond Stud, out of imported Hanoverian mare, Fontana by Feiner Stern. With a pedigree full of Grand Prix stars, Diamond Stud (GOV) offers North American breeders a rich heritage of top performers and proven rideability. Equally impressive was his gentlemanly demeanor in the barn and with people. Diamond Stud successfully completed the 70 day test at Silver Creek Farm in 2010. Some of his score highlights were: (Test Director) Character “10”, Temperament “9.5”, Willingness to work “9”, Constitution “9”, Rideability “8.5”; (Judges scores) Movement – walk “8.5”, trot ” 8.50″, canter “8.75”. Diamond Stud sired a high percentage of premium foals; his oldest offspring have been started under saddle and they are displaying not only very good gaits but also very high rideability. As Diamond Stud recently passed away, we feel fortunate to be able to offer this quality daughter of his for sale.
The dam Fontana (Feiner Stern/Erbherzog) received exceptional scores at her Mare Performance Test in Germany. She was awarded 9s for walk and trot, 8 for canter, 8 and 9 for character and rideability, and 7s for her jumping (even as a dressage-bred mare). She was an excellent broodmare and consistently produced quality, rideable offspring, one of which is competing at Prix St George with an amateur. We have retained her superb 3 year old filly by Bugatti as a future show horse and breeding prospect. A testament to the rideability of Fontana’s offspring is the fact that a number of them are mounts in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police musical ride which requires amateur-friendly horses that are ridden in large public performances by novice adult RCMP officers.
Ouija is bold and full of personality, showing intelligence and curiosity. She has a lovely balanced canter and an uphill, cadenced trot with plenty of suspension. She is an excellent dressage prospect for the future, although her siblings’ versatility and rideability suggest that she may be a prospect for whatever discipline her rider chooses. Ouija was sold in February 2018 to a close friend in Kingston, Ontario, who will provide an excellent home for her.
Sold to a Quebec rider – gorgeous 10-year-old bay 15-3 mare Mischief Managed (aka “Missy”) by the Trakehner stallion Asher out of the TB mare Magic Minx. This mare has a fabulous work ethic and is a character to have around. She is well schooled and previously evented but is no longer sound for regular work. Missy is safe and kind with novice riders. Bred to be a hunter, she would have lovely babies for eventing or the hunter ring. Registered in the “B” book of the American Trakehner Association (ATA), her babies could be registered as full Trakehners if she was approved for breeding at an ATA inspection.
Stunning and talented 7-year-old 17 hand Oldenburg/Trakehner gelding (registered ATA), chestnut with lots of chrome. This eye-catching boy turns heads wherever he goes! Currently competing successfully at Training and First level dressage, but also hacks down the road, including on his own. He was born at our farm and brought along slowly to allow him to mature. Loads of ability to move up the levels with an ambitious amateur, young rider, or professional, and we expect to see him in the FEI ring in a few years. Huge gaits with an excellent hind leg. Sire is a son of the top show jumper, Fuerst Gotthard, and dam is a Trakehner by Verband stallion, Heling, and is from the dam line of the immortal Abiza. Despite his big movement and ability, he has a generally laid-back temperament and is a pleasure to have in the barn.
Viking has found a new home with dressage rider and judge, Renee Young, of Ontario. It will be exciting to see them wowing audiences in 2017!
