Whrapsody RGS (“Tosca”)

Bohème (“Bijou”), our 6 yr old Hanoverian mare (Bugatti/Feiner Stern) delivered her first foal early on Sunday, June 7: a black filly by Wynton. “Whrapsody RGS” is definitely bred for dressage! It is fitting that Bijou’s sister, Ouija (“Dark Arts RGS” – Diamond Stud/Feiner Stern, owned by Dani Marie of Kingston) was born on this day 3 years ago. This little girl is a firecracker, just like her aunt Ouija and her mother were! Her barn name will be “Tosca”, in keeping with the opera theme – love those strong female characters. This is the second generation born on our farm – Bijou was bred by John Phillips at the RCMP breeding farm and we purchased her dam Mika in 2013, in foal with Bijou.

Vesuvio RGS (“Hades”)

The third (and final) foal for Red Gate this year was born at 1 am on Tuesday, July 16: a typey black Hanoverian colt by Valentino, out of Francesca (Federweisser/Weltruhm), named Vesuvio RGS, aka “Hades.” After a little rest, he was very quick to stand and nurse, demonstrating his cleverness from the get-go, like a typical Francesca baby.
This is the fifth foal that Francesca has produced for us and they are very consistent in type and personality: De Havilland, aka “Diablo” (by Dubai) and Santeria aka “Voodoo” (by Sir Gregory) have been retained by us and are proving to be superior riding horses; Supersonic aka “Sonic” (by Sir Wanabi) and Dragunov aka “Dragon” (by Diamond Stud) have been sold to excellent homes in Illinois and Ontario.
Hades was introduced to a rider (under Avery Brennan) in fall 2022, and started further training under saddle with Matt Kidney of Stonecrest Stables in summer 2023. We look forward to producing him in eventing and dressage.

Scheherazade RGS (“Zeta”)

Scheherazade RGS (aka “Zeta”), by Sir Gregory out of Arista GS (Heling/Malachit), registered German Oldenburg. This lovely little chestnut girl was born a few days early at 2:30 am on Thursday, June 6. She was determined to fight her way to standing right away, even attempting some trot steps around the stall as soon as she was up – full of personality already! We are really impressed with our other Sir Gregory mare (the 4-year-old Hanoverian “Santeria”, out of Francesca by Federweisser) and are thrilled that we have the opportunity to have another filly from this super stallion.

Zeta was accepted in the main studbook for breeding approval with the Hanoverian Verband as a 3 year old. She is now partnered with young rider, Avery Brennan, of Ottawa, ON. Zeta completed her first event with Avery in fall of 2023 and had a successful 2024 season eventing at Pretraining level. In April 2025, Zeta and Avery attended a clinic with legendary event rider, Lucinda Green – Lucinda was full of praise for Avery and Zeta, including identifying their potential for top international sport!

With her bold nature and athleticism she seems well suited to the sport of eventing, and we look forward to great things from this pair in the years to come!

Arkangel (“Artax”)

On May 25th, 2013, Arista GS (Heling/Malachit) delivered a very tall chestnut colt by the Thoroughbred show jumping stallion, Coconut Grove xx. “Arkangel” (aka Artax) was bred to be the ultimate eventing prospect, from the combination of an international show jumping Thoroughbred sire with generations of successful Trakehner event breeding on his dam’s side. He was well received at his American Trakehner inspection at King’s Windy Fields in Newmarket, ON, in August 2013, and was awarded an 8 for his superb movement.

Lexicon HPF (“Lexa”)

On June 19, 2018, late morning, Valencia III (Indoctro/Calido I) delivered a lovely big bay filly by Holsteiner stallion, Conway II (Karen Reid of Foxfire Farm), out in her pasture and more than two weeks early! The mare’s milk the night before gave us no clues. It’s unnerving when mares have sneak attack foalings, although nice that we won’t have to lose any sleep waiting for this little girl to arrive! Bred by Nick Edmunds of Hidden Pearl Farm, she has a lovely face and has a cheeky personality.

Lexa was presented at the American Holsteiner inspection in Bromont Quebec, in September 2018. Unfortunately, she didn’t feel like showing off her exceptional movement but was still awarded 7 for movement and 7 for conformation, for Premium status.  Behaviourly, Lexa was perfection – despite minimal preparation, she took to the experience like an old pro.

Lexa was started under saddle in 2022, and as she has remained smaller in height than expected, we elected to breed her to give her some additional time to grow. She was bred to Rubinio and produced a superb colt, Rubicon RGS (“Roman”) who very sadly had to be euthanized due to a septic joint at six weeks old. Lexa returned to work under saddle and showed a keen ability to work and learn. We look forward to her eventing debut.

Dark Arts RGS (“Ouija”)

Born June 7, 2017 was the black Rhinelander filly “Dark Arts” (aka Ouija) by Diamond Stud, out of imported Hanoverian mare, Fontana by Feiner Stern. With a pedigree full of Grand Prix stars, Diamond Stud (GOV) offers North American breeders a rich heritage of top performers and proven rideability. Equally impressive was his gentlemanly demeanor in the barn and with people. Diamond Stud successfully completed the 70 day test at Silver Creek Farm in 2010. Some of his score highlights were: (Test Director) Character “10”, Temperament “9.5”, Willingness to work “9”, Constitution “9”, Rideability “8.5”; (Judges scores) Movement – walk “8.5”, trot ” 8.50″, canter “8.75”. Diamond Stud sired a high percentage of premium foals; his oldest offspring have been started under saddle and they are displaying not only very good gaits but also very high rideability. As Diamond Stud recently passed away, we feel fortunate to be able to offer this quality daughter of his for sale.

The dam Fontana (Feiner Stern/Erbherzog) received exceptional scores at her Mare Performance Test in Germany. She was awarded 9s for walk and trot, 8 for canter, 8 and 9 for character and rideability, and 7s for her jumping (even as a dressage-bred mare). She was an excellent broodmare and consistently produced quality, rideable offspring, one of which is competing at Prix St George with an amateur. We have retained her superb 3 year old filly by Bugatti as a future show horse and breeding prospect. A testament to the rideability of Fontana’s offspring is the fact that a number of them are mounts in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police musical ride which requires amateur-friendly horses that are ridden in large public performances by novice adult RCMP officers.

Ouija is bold and full of personality, showing intelligence and curiosity. She has a lovely balanced canter and an uphill, cadenced trot with plenty of suspension. She is an excellent dressage prospect for the future, although her siblings’ versatility and rideability suggest that she may be a prospect for whatever discipline her rider chooses.  Ouija was sold in February 2018 to a close friend in Kingston, Ontario, who will provide an excellent home for her.

Dragunov RGS (“Dragon”)

On June 23, Francesca  (Federweisser/Weltrum) delivered an impressive big black colt by Dreamscape’s black Oldenburg stallion, Diamond Stud (http://www.dreamscapefarm.com/HorseDetail.aspx?ID=480) — a half-brother to our 2017 filly born 2 weeks earlier.  He is really well developed.  This is the 7th foal for Francesca — her first 3 for the RCMP and then 4 for us.  All the foals Fran has had for us are here on the farm — hard to let go of them…

In Flight (“Falcon”)

falcon-at-3-months-sept-10-2016-1falcon-at-3-months-sept-10-2016-2

The tall bay Holsteiner mare Peregrine delivered a lovely bay filly the evening of June 3.  “In Flight” (aka “Falcon”) is a big spunky bay girl with 4 white socks.  She loves to run like the wind and has already taken quite a few cavaletti on her way around the arena!  Her Holsteiner sire, Aliano (STAMM: 318D2), was bred in Germany and imported to Quebec in 2004 with the help of Karen Reid from Foxfire Farm in Washington State (http://www.fmbfarm.com/aliano_.ws).  This little girl is very human-oriented and loves to be scratched in all the right places.

Update on American Holsteiner Horse Association (AHHA) inspection in Quebec, October 2016.  Falcon was scored as a premium foal, receiving high scores for both conformation (8) and movement (7), with the judge’s comments particularly noting her beautiful type and also the improvement of the mare’s limitations in the filly.  Look under “News” for more information and photos.

Argento Vivo (“Ares”)

“Argento Vivo” (“Ares”), a gray PRE (Pura Raza Espanol) Andalusian colt was born late July 2015. He is a tall, conformationally correct colt who will finish 16+ hands. Like both his parents, Ares displays a lovely balanced canter and an exceptional temperament that make him an exciting prospect for the future, for amateurs and professionals alike. He is registered with IALHA (North America), including microchip, and registration with ANCCE (Spain) is underway. Ares was sired by the grey stallion Alano HPF (Barbian VIII/Regalado II): http://www.aragonandalusians.com/pages/stallion.php out of our lovely bay mare, Coriana M (Hilandero X/Invasor III).  Ares’ pedigree can be seen at: www.allbreedpedigree.com/argento+vivo

Ares has gone to a dressage home in the Guelph, Ontario, area and is a big hit with his new owners.
