Baby Stella Arrived in Washington State

Stella was sold to a wonderful home south of Seattle. After an 8 day cross-Canada trip in the care of Northern Horse Transport,  she offloaded at her new home. There were many obstacles along the way like snowstorms in northern Ontario and central BC and a 4-hour wait at the border. However, Stella took it all in her stride and has settled in well in her new environment. We look forward to her future success as an event horse with her owner, Kelsy.

Stunning black Hanoverian filly yearling – serious dressage prospect

We are delighted to share the news that Tosca has sold to breeders in southern Ontario who plan a performance career as well as a broodmare career.

2020 black Hanoverian filly: Wynton/Bugatti Hilltop/Feiner Stern. Bred for serious dressage, this filly has three quality gaits and a personable bold temperament that would suit professional and ambitious amateur alike. She is currently 14.2 and is expected to mature 16.1-16.2.

Her sire Wynton (by Jazz) was a successful competitor at International Grand Prix dressage with two World Cup appearances and he is becoming well known as a sire of FEI dressage horses. Wynton has 5 licensed sons and at least 14 of his first (2008) foal crop alone have reached the FEI levels.

Her dam Bohème suffered an unfortunate pasture injury as a 4-year-old, but she comes from a family of super riding horses. Her dam, Fontana (Feiner Stern) scored 8.06 at her Mare Performance Test in Germany (9 and 8 for rideability; 9s for walk and trot; 8 for canter; 7s for jumping) and was imported for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) breeding program. Fontana produced 6 horses that became part of the RCMP musical ride – the ultimate test of temperament and rideability. One daughter has competed Prix St. George with her amateur owner.

Located south of Ottawa, Ontario and near the northern NY border. Price is $14,000 USD. 13% HST applies to Canadian buyers.

Interstellar RGS (“Stella”)

New arrival at Red Gate early on May 27 right around her due date: the chestnut filly “Interstellar RGS” (“Stella”) by the GOV stallion Lestat out of the CSH mare Urika by Indoctro. She was cheeky and precocious right from the start, standing and nursing right away, and wheeling around on those long legs. 😊 She has proven to have a balanced, uphill canter and has started showing off a lovely trot. And look at her chrome!

Stella was sold as a weanling to Kelsy S. of Washington State as a future eventing prospect.

Marvel – handsome yearling Hanoverian has gone to a new jumper home

Congratulations to Elly B. of Wendover, Ontario, on the purchase of Vigilante RGS (aka “Marvel”). We were sad to see him go but also thrilled that he has gone to a great home where we know he will get top notch care and be produced well in the years to come. Look out for this pair in the jumper ring in a few years! 😊

SALES AD:

2019 branded Hanoverian gelding by Valentino, out of Valencia III (Indoctro/Calido I/Lord Calando). He is a top prospect for jumping, eventing, or hunters. “Marvel” is truly the whole package: pedigree, conformation, movement, and temperament. He has an impressive pedigree, bred for sport. Sire Valentino is in the top 1% of all German sires. He competed to 1.40 m himself, has produced 1.50-1.60 m jumpers, and was ranked #8 on the WBFSH world sire rankings for eventing in 2019. Damsire Indoctro has consistently been one of the top ranked jumping and eventing sires in the world. He has sired numerous 1.60 m jumpers, including a number of Olympic competitors (represented by 2 direct offspring at the 2016 Olympics, and 5 at the 2012 Olympics). Marvel comes from a versatile performance family: his maternal half sister is competing at 1.40 (Barbara HPF, by Autobahn) and his maternal brother won 5-year-old Dressage Suitability at Dressage at Devon (Arioctro HPF, by Ariadus). He has three good gaits with a particularly good canter. Best of all, he has an unbeatable temperament – he is brave, personable, and extremely easy to work with.

Whrapsody RGS (“Tosca”)

Bohème (“Bijou”), our 6 yr old Hanoverian mare (Bugatti/Feiner Stern) delivered her first foal early on Sunday, June 7: a black filly by Wynton. “Whrapsody RGS” is definitely bred for dressage! It is fitting that Bijou’s sister, Ouija (“Dark Arts RGS” – Diamond Stud/Feiner Stern, owned by Dani Marie of Kingston) was born on this day 3 years ago. This little girl is a firecracker, just like her aunt Ouija and her mother were! Her barn name will be “Tosca”, in keeping with the opera theme – love those strong female characters. This is the second generation born on our farm – Bijou was bred by John Phillips at the RCMP breeding farm and we purchased her dam Mika in 2013, in foal with Bijou.

Success with Baby Zeta at the GOV inspection

Scheherezade RGS, aka “Zeta” (Sir Gregory/Heling/Malachit; bred by Amy Patterson and Red Gate Sporthorses), attended the German Oldenburg Verband (GOV) inspection at Rideauwood Farm in Merrickville on August 3. The inspectors were very positive, praising Zeta for her well developed type and neck and correct conformation. She managed to show some super, active steps of trot and was ultimately awarded Premium status. Zeta’s dam, Arista, was a saint, as always, and we had a great learning day with excellent commentary from the GOV inspectors visiting from Germany and the USA.

Vesuvio RGS (“Hades”)

The third (and final) foal for Red Gate this year was born at 1 am on Tuesday, July 16: a typey black Hanoverian colt by Valentino, out of Francesca (Federweisser/Weltruhm), named Vesuvio RGS, aka “Hades.” After a little rest, he was very quick to stand and nurse, demonstrating his cleverness from the get-go, like a typical Francesca baby.
This is the fifth foal that Francesca has produced for us and they are very consistent in type and personality: De Havilland, aka “Diablo” (by Dubai) and Santeria aka “Voodoo” (by Sir Gregory) have been retained by us and are proving to be superior riding horses; Supersonic aka “Sonic” (by Sir Wanabi) and Dragunov aka “Dragon” (by Diamond Stud) have been sold to excellent homes in Illinois and Ontario.
Hades was introduced to a rider (under Avery Brennan) in fall 2022, and started further training under saddle with Matt Kidney of Stonecrest Stables in summer 2023. We look forward to producing him in eventing and dressage.

Sway is a California Movie Star

Our Red Gate home-bred, Slipstream (Sir Wanabi/Geronimo), now known as Jacques, serves as demo horse in this instructional video for Amelia Newcomb Dressage. Since December 2018, he has been owned and loved by Micaela G., with his training overseen by the talented Amelia Newcomb at Spirit Equestrian (https://www.spiritequestrian.com/) situated NW of Los Angeles. Sway (Jacques) is showcasing the exceptional rideability that Sir Wanabi kids are known for, and is looking great under Amelia! Can’t wait for him to make his show debut with Amelia this year! 😊

Update on Trakehner broodmare Arista GS

Yesterday was a big day for our Trakehner broodmare Arista GS (Heling/Malachit) who recently returned to us from the USA – she delivered her 2019 Sir Gregory filly, Scheherezade, plus her 6 yr old son, Artax (aka “Arkangel”), bred by Red Gate Sporthorses, attended his first hunter ‘A’ show in Quebec!

Artax (now known as Lucas), a 2013 Trakehner gelding by the TB jumper sensation Coconut Grove xx, made his debut in the 2’6-2’9 Low Hunters and 2’6 Pre-Green at Blainville. He had a super learning day and was “amazing”, according to trainer/rider, Sabrina G. of Centre équestre l’intégrité (Hudson, QC). Congratulations to Sabrina and owner Stephanie L.! This horse has a bright future ahead of him in the hunter/equitation rings!

The four sons of Arista GS bred by Red Gate are performing in a variety of disciplines:

– Dressage (Leviathan, by a son of the Hanoverian stallion Fuerst Gotthard with owner Sheona H. of Ottawa)

– Fox hunting and soon low-level eventing (Sandringham, by the Hanoverian stallion Schroeder with owner Kate F. of North Carolina)

– Hunter (Arkangel – info above)

– Dressage/Young Horse eventing (Somersby, by the GOV-approved stallion Sagnol with owner, Lauren W. of Kentucky).

Quite a versatile family! ☺
